What is Workplace Bullying

Workplace bullying is when people use aggressive or unreasonable behaviour.

If a person is coming across as offensive, inappropriate, intimidating, rude, humiliating, insulting through non-verbal and/or verbal communication then you are dealing with a bully.  Just remember that communication can include SMS, text messages and emails.

People will bully you because they themselves feel threatened, insecure and powerless.  They feel good by putting you down.  Therefore counselling will help them realise how their actions are affecting others and it will help them improve their attitude in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

Sometimes a person can come across as a bully because they are stressed and don't know how to deal with it.

What Impact does Workplace Bullying have on the Workplace
  • It can cause the victim to suffer from psychological and physical symptoms such as stress, anger, anxiety, depression, fatigue, sleep disorders and lack of self-esteem.
  • It can create a loss of income as staff will take more time off work, make more mistakes when at work, suffer from lack of concentration and confidence and is more likely to have accidents in the workplace.  Increased staff turnover will also occur, creating a loss of valuable skills and experience.

Studies show that the above symptoms have been known to exist for over 5 years after the bullying had occurred if it is not dealt with effectively and in a timely manner.

Workplace bullying should not be tolerated and dealt with as soon as possible before the victim, their families, friends and colleagues suffer from the consequences.
