Trauma can result from a fall from the playground, family dysfunction, bullying, car accident, home invasion and much more. Therefore, trauma is ubiquitous which can disrupt mental health, behaviour and learning.
Trauma-informed care means that you consider what happened to the child and how they are coping rather than what is wrong with the child.
Trauma-informed care also means developing strategies to manage triggers from past trauma, managing emotions and behaviour of the child, working with the family and the child to improve caring role, and social skills building.

Often, the child who have been through trauma can present with symptoms similar to ADHD. Trauma symptoms in children can manifest as challenging behaviours, inattention and lack of concentration, which can lead to problems with social, emotional and academic functioning.
Josephine will work with you to consider the child and his or her context, which means that you will work within a family focused way. You will learn how to work effectively with the family and consider their culture, attitude, experiences and story without judgement and safely.

The system of the workplace will support those who are vulnerable to ensure safety, care and support. Staff will learn how to communicate with families to ensure collaboration, safety, choice, empowerment and trustworthiness.

Consulting will ensure that the trauma-informed care practices are aligned to your standards and frameworks and supported within your program.

Children who have been through traumatic experiences may respond differently. Some become impulsive, some withdraw, some display challenging behaviours and others have poor social skills, struggle academically, and/or have risk-taking behaviours to cope with heightened emotions.
