Interpersonal Behaviour

Improving interpersonal behaviour sessions will improve the way you relate to yourself and others, it will improve how you manage your thoughts and emotions, you will have a safe space to reflect on your values and beliefs and change them if they are not working for you, and you will have the opportunity to live a healthier, happier life with better and healthier relationships at work, home and in educational settings.

Please note for children (over 7 years of age) and adolescents it may be best to work with the family and include teacher training at their school.

You will learn how to effectively:
  • Manage emotions and thoughts
  • Manage frustration
  • Recognise anger/conflict and how to manage them
  • Manage behaviour
  • Manage stress
  • Understand the differences of healthy and unhealthy relationships
  • Perspective taking
  • Relaxation techniques/training
  • Problem solving skills
  • Improve self-regulation skills
  • Manage poor effort management
  • Manage impulsive behaviour
  • Improve self-esteem
  • Improve self-awareness
  • Improve aggressive, passive-aggressive, passive behaviour

Josephine will use the systems theory approach, which means she will consider the past and present environment that may be influencing your behaviour.  Environment may include work, school, friends, family and culture.  She will also use the attachment theory approach, which means the way your parent/caregiver influenced how you connect emotionally.  Attachments can influence how you connect with others as you may have become anxious (worried somebody is going to leave you), needy (too dependent) or ambivalent (have trouble getting too close, but wanting closeness).   Josephine will also consider your personality as introverts tend to be considered as passive, passive-aggressive, aloof, unsocial and shy; while extroverts can be considered more aggressive, rude, too outspoken and socially needy.   Learning about your style through your personality will help you accept yourself fully, accept others fully, that it is okay to be different and that sometimes you may need to stretch yourself to stay healthy and balanced (e.g., too much isolation is not healthy and can cause depression, being too assertive can come across as aggressive behaviour).

While Josephine will help you work through your story to help strengthen and improve your interpersonal behaviour, she will also give you a lot of strategies which you can use between sessions.  Therefore, the sessions are skills based, so you will be encouraged to experiment with your new skills to identify your strengths and weaknesses, challenges and successes and then talk about them in the sessions with Josephine.

You will gain the confidence to relate well and solve interpersonal problems such as conflict management, improve social behaviour and develop healthy relationships at work, home, educational settings and with friends.

Sessions to improve interpersonal behaviour are held in Essendon North and Hillside rooms.

A workshop or sessions can also be held at your workplace to manage bullying, improve team work and mental health.
