Emotion Focused Therapy

Emotion focused therapy is a humanistic, experential approach that focuses on the emotions as well as healing through the emotions.  The sessions are experienced by the client and therapist moment by moment so emotions can be experienced safely and processed.  The client, through psycho-education learns how and why emotions are used and learn to use them as a guide to direct life for growth and meaning.  It facilitates emotional learning and improves emotional intelligence.

Emotion focused therapy lends itself from gestalt therapy, person-centered therapy, and existential therapies.  This therapy is used for depression, anxiety, interpersonal problems, self esteem, trauma and post traumatic stress disorder, changing beliefs, is used to improve relationships and for couples counselling.

Treatment includes the psychodynamic approach, empty chair technique and inner child work.  Treatment also includes the focusing technique to help resolve confusion and create change in thoughts, emotions and behaviour through awareness of your internal bodily sensations called felt sense.  Felt sense will help you shift perspective to regain clarity from confusion.
